Cool Info for Parents in Lausanne, Switzerland

A Bunch of Thanks to LausanneMom Supporters

If you think that I get a lot of money doing this blog, oh, I can assure you that I don’t. I’m still doing this blog as a hobby and have been paying everything from my own pocket (Thank goodness that I work and can use my own salary, so no conflict with hubby so far :D ). Paid advertisement started to flow in earlier this year, and I am very thankful that now at least I almost paid off what I have spent.

So yep, I want to use this post to thank those wonderful people who have been kindly supporting LausanneMom.com.

Confetti Box, run by Estelle, offers adorable and affordable party supply for kids’ birthday. The offers range from balloons to hats to pinata to blowout to candles. Very fast shipping (oh yeah, I tested it).

Carmen from BYouCoaching offers personal coaching and workshops for parents and children. I have heard wonderful testimonial from a participant of her workshop, so better be there on the next workshop!

And who doesn’t know Babyzou (yet)? My personal favorite for baby stores around — not a surprise as it’s conveniently located only 5 min on foot from my apartment ;) . But not only for me, I guess. As far as I know, Babyzou is the easiest baby store to reach by public transport from Lausanne, as it’s located directly opposite the metro station Croisettes. And they recently launched their Baby Registry, so if you’re expecting a baby, you may want to take a look at it (click here).

Liz from Forget-Me-Not Cards, whom I continuously thank for keeping snail mail alive… and lovely! Take a look at her card collection and I guarantee you’ll feel the urge to send those to your loved ones back home. Her current stock also includes Christmas stuffs, in case you like to prepare early (oh yeah, how we all know that preparing early is the only way to get things done when we have kids!)

Lisa from Know-It-All Passport, whose work I don’t think need more introduction. If you see the newest edition that was just out this week, you’ll understand my enthusiasm about this guidebook. Btw, don’t forget to leave a comment to enter the giveaway contest on this post (ends at 11:59pm tonight!).

Amie from CiaoBambino.com, who just recently moved to Vaud. Amie and her team have given traveling with kids a new flavor. Planning your winter vacation? Make sure you check the website here!

And of course, I also thank all of you readers for keeping this blog alive, useful, and fun. Your feedback is always appreciated so do leave comments, click on the links, recommend the blog and the facebook page to your friends.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Poll: Do you work, moms?

I ran this poll last year but there was a problem with some widgets on the site, so here it is again. Please vote so that I can have a general idea about my readers, and thus can hopefully improve the post quality. And please vote only when you are a mother residing in Lausanne and around (Vaud). Many thanks.

Do you work, moms?

I’m planning a reconstruction of LausanneMom.com

Dear Readers,

I’ve been having some rather annoying problems with the website. I’m now planning a major reconstruction of the site which will be done slowly, bit by bit. Some of you know that I am a working mother with a toddler and maintain this site by my own self (mostly means that I can only work on my computer during the time when tot is fast asleep). I don’t have any background in web programming so that whenever I need to change some settings it usually takes me a good amount of time to find how to do it. But rather than blocking the access to the website at all for very long time, I will just block the access whenever I have the time to do the changes I plan and will put it back online even when I haven’t completely finished all the work. This will mean that for some time (which length I cannot estimate yet), the website may look awful, but the posts should at least be readable. It will it may take sometime before the website will look and run well again. I apologize in advance for this. But I hope you will continue to check it as I will still do new post during this period.

In addition, I have heard of many helpful comments on how to improve the site to make it more enjoyable for the readers and I hope I can address those. I welcome more comments and ideas, as well as critics. Please let me know by leaving a comment below, on facebook, or by email to info(AT)lausannemom(DOT)com.

Finally, I hope all of you enjoy the sun this weekend! Happy Summer!

love,

meta.

New Page: “Downloads”

I just added a new page, called “Downloads“. You’ll find the link on the top Navigation Bar, just next to the famous “Event” ;)

I have listed several useful downloads there. I’d very much appreciate if you can let me know other useful (hopefully free) download-able things that I can list there. Thanks!

Facebook: Catch Up With A Friend

I have heard way too often that many moms intended to write regular updates about their little ones but never managed to do it. There are actually many possibilities to do this, from a simple logs (like this), a journal, to a blog. But even as a blogging freak, sometimes I still feel that I don’t write enough — some of the things that my daughter did and cracked me up never ended up on the blog. However, many did get written… on my facebook status! So, I looked for a way to easily pool all my facebook status. By googling around, I found Catch Up with a Friend.

Catch Up with a Friend lets you pool all your past and recent status on a single page. Then you can do whatever  you want — you can copy paste them somewhere else, make pdf documents, or simply print them. So, if you, like me, regularly write about your children in your facebook status, voilà!, there’s your journal!

As the name indicate, the application also allows you to pool other friend’s status, thus making it easy for you to catch up with their life. This application, however, does not pull the comments to your status. Still, I think it’s better than nothing! And, then of course, don’t forget to update your facebook status! ;)

P.S.: Do let me know if you know other facebook apps that can be useful to other moms!

(Belated) First Anniversary

I hesitated to do this post, as I feel a bit unprofessional to do a post about this site’s first anniversary one week late (my first log was posted on Jan 2, 2009). But after all, this site is a one-woman show, and this one woman happens to be a wife and a working mom of a toddler. You know, a regular woman, just like most of my readers, who can get sick (I was down by a flu for 2 weeks in December), has house chores, and get yelled at by her own little people.

Well, let’s get back to what this post was meant to be, to celebrate the fantastic year I had spent with you, my readers! I had A LOT of fun interacting with you and collaborating with other moms who contributed for this site. But there are 2 things that I love the most. First, I re-discover Lausanne every single day. I now walk through the city with a different attitude. Since I’m constantly looking for materials for the post, now I see, I look, I become aware of many many great things that would have escaped my attention before. I love Lausanne even more now. And second, through this site I have made so many new friends! So precious!

Thank you, thank you, thank you, readers, for checking the site on a regular basis, for your comments, tips and encouragement, for being a fan in facebook, for being a friend. I have many more ideas to come, and what I achieved with this site in only 1 year, has really pushed me to move on with my other projects. I’ll share them with you when the time comes.

take care and bisous,

meta.
