Rejected!
Oh, my… Again we got rejection letters from the two nurseries we applied for through BIP — Le Polychinelle at the EPFL and La Croquignole at the UNIL. We’ve been on the waiting list for a year, and they said there was absolutely no space for our baby for the coming academic year (Sept 2009-Aug 2010). Which means that we can try our luck again for Sept 2010 by staying in the BIP waiting list. So last week I sent the form to extend our application (which should be done every 4 months, otherwise we’ll be kicked out of the list! See my previous post for more information).
Apart from those 2 public nurseries applied through BIP, we are in the waiting list of 3 other nurseries. And we’re still waiting and waiting…
Moral of the story? Apply to BIP as early as possible and don’t forget to extend the application every 4 months! Good luck to us all.

Hello, honestly I’ve also been on the waiting list for more than a year. I’ve just read your post, and I’m about to renew my waiting list registration at the BIP. I honesly think the system is a joke. I know people who got a spot this year, despite the fact that their kid is the same age as mine, and therefore since I applied in the first trimester I seriously doubt that anything but personal pressure, and going to annoy the directors of the garderies work. I think it’s a mockery of the whole process that we are not all considered equally by our position in the waiting list.
I’m afraid that I have to disagree with you. The system works, the problem is that the demand way exceeds the available spots. It’s worse if you need a nursery (under 2) vs a garderie (>2), as there are fewer nurseries than garderie. Another problem is that the applicants are bypassed by the parents who already have their first child in the garderie. It sounds unfair, but it makes sense, as they try to help parents to drop their children at one place instead of going to one garderie for the big one and another nursery for the small one. So, hang in there, once you got a place, it will be much easier if you have another child, as you’ll be top priority. We’re hoping for a spot this Sept at UNIL/EPFL ones as our daughter will become 2 by then and she can go to the garderie instead of the nursery, so the chance to get one will significantly increase. But you can try annoying them, and let me know if it works
Hey, Preeem, I just heard from a friend that they indeed got a place at the Polychinelle after “bugging” the directrice.
So, go ahead and bug her! Good luck!
