This & That Week #24 – June 2014

I accidentally poured half glass of cold sugary coffee on my computer and it’s now (hopefully) on recovery mode (see pic). I had to finish this post on my old MacBook and boy, it was a torture!

But many awesome things are and will be going on this weekend, so here’s the quick list:

And… many shops have started their summer sale! Don’t forget to swing by your favorite stores to grab some deals 🙂

Happy weekend!

Creativa Lausanne at Beaulieu, 31 Oct – 3 Nov 2013 (With Tickets to Giveaway)

Hey crafty people! Here’s something for you!

The annual craft exhibition Creativa Lausanne will be held in Beaulieu exhibition complex on 31 Oct – 3 Nov 2013. This is the place to go to buy supplies, find new ideas and learn new skills. Although if you were like me, this can be “dangerous” as you may end up buying many things 🙂 My advise is to bring enough cash. Hahaha, I know, I know, I’m bad when it comes to craft supply – Resistance is futile! But I remember that many of the bigger stands offer paying with cards, too, if that helped 😉

As usual, this year’s Creativa will host a number of workshops. The list can be found here, and there is also at least one for children from 7 years.

Entry ticket costs CHF5-14. There is also a reduced price for the “Nocturne”, which will be on Friday, 1 Nov from 6-8pm.

Now the best part: for Lausanne Mom readers, the organizer of Creativa had mailed me FIVE free tickets to giveaway. To enter the contest, leave a comment and let me know what kind of craft(s) you do. For me, my most favorite one is sewing! I still have this dream that someday I would be a seamstress! Comments are accepted until Monday, 14 October 2013 at 11:59pm. As usual, 5 winners will be picked by and announced on this page.

Good luck and happy crafting!

Psssst, to increase your chance to win free tickets, try the contest at Creativa official page.

This & That July 2012 – Week #28-29

I had a hard and long last week, and was knocked down by fever during the weekend. Now I am so happy to function properly — and be able to post again!

How are you? Are your kids enjoying their vacation? Are you, too, on vacation?

  • Flying somewhere during this summer vacation? If you have younger kids and some time to spend at the airports before taking off, don’t forget to check out the nurseries and play rooms. They’re awesome. The one in Geneva here and Zurich here (I think Zurich has more than one but I only experienced this one). EuroAirport Basel also has (small) play areas all around the airport.
  • And if you want to take a train to the airport but have way too many to carry, there is Fly Rail Baggage service that we had personally used many times and can highly recommend.
  • Festival de la Cité started today! (until Sunday)
  • Another new great blog in English that covers Lausanne from the life-and-style side.
  • Moms & Moms-to-be: The next scheduled coffee mornings in Starbucks, St. Laurent are the 10th and 24th July 2012 from 11am to 1pm. (Note: I am not the organizer, I’m just passing the info)
  • Those of you who like (or would like to learn) to sew, Jana from Atelier 3 petits points will have 2 days of open door on Monday 16th and Tue 17th of July.
  • If you also use and benefit from Moms-in-Vaud social network, you can now show your support by joining the raffle (fyi, I’ve bought my ticket).

Last words for this post: I’m only 5 “likes” away from reaching 350 fans on Lausanne Mom facebook page. Once the number is reached, I promise we’ll have some giveaways! Isn’t it something to look forward to? 🙂

There are 2 classes on Wednesday:

  • 9:30 – 11am for 4-6 y.o.
  • 1:30 – 3pm for 6-10 y.o.

There is also class on Saturdays (Ateliers du samedi) from 9:30-11am, which is for children from 4 years, accompanied by an adult. Price: CHF100 for 2 classes, all inclusive.

And, now we come to the best part: Nicole has agreed to give 2 lucky readers each a free “Atelier du Samedi” in May. More on SessaKids

Remember this guest post about the SessaKids baby bibs? I had the chance to meet Svenja, the creator of those lovely bibs, a few Fridays ago at her stand in Place de la Palud. It was my perfect chance to take a closer look at the many products she sold. Oh yes, she had many other besides the bibs (aprons, buntings, pants, bags, etc.). Great choice of fabrics (many oil cloth ones) and colors, simple and classic yet lovely designs. And the prices were very reasonable given the fact that they were all hand made! L.O.V.E.

I just checked Svenja’s website (, unfortunately it’s still under construction. In case you want to check out her products, simply email her at: info (AT) sessakids (DOT) com

Sture & Folke – Hand Made Baby Blankets

A few weeks ago I was contacted by Karin, who just started a hand made baby blanket business in the area. I thought I had to get the post out today — what could be better than a post about cuddly blankets in such awful weather! Did I mention already that the blankets are hand-made? Oh yes, I’m always so excited when it comes to a crafty mom going entrepreneurial!

Here’s more about Sture & Folke baby blankets in Karin’s own words:

My STURE & FOLKE baby blankets are the result of my wanting to give my own two sons, Sture and Folke, the warmest and softest baby blanket in which to sleep. I tried so hard to find something special that was not only warm and cozy but also playful and beautiful. I gave up searching and decided to make them myself. My aim was to make something not only for the cot and buggy but also a blanket that I could use everywhere. For example to put on the floor in the living room that also functions as a nice decoration as well as a soft play rug. All my blankets are unique and each one is created for the individual who will use it.

My inspiration comes from nature in Sweden (where I am from) and watching my boys on our daily walks by Lake Geneva. The spectrum of colours are taken from all that I see and love: flowers, water, birds, mountains, leaves, snow, clouds…

My workshop is located in Préverenges, in case you are interested to take a closer look.

Note: A few days after this post went up, I received a surprised gift from Karin — one of her gorgeous baby blankets for my baby boy. See my personal review about it here.

next to nicx by Nicola Pravato

This is a guest post from Nicola Pravato, whom I had the privilege to meet through her Stitch ‘n’ Bitch (see the post earlier this year here). Ever creative and entrepreneurial, she finally launched her business here in Lausanne. And there is a special offer for Lausanne Mom readers 🙂 Read on.

Are you looking for something a little special this Christmas? Are you a lover of handmade? Like letterpress?

Hello, I’m Nicola Pravato and Meta has very kindly let write about my just launched, small bespoke letterpress business in my home studio in Lausanne.

As those of you who have met me through the Stitch ‘n’ Bitch ( know I adore all things handmade and finding myself in the role of trailing spouse has resulted in me finding entertainment and solace in creating and meeting those who share similar passions (Hello lovely ladies and gents! *waves*). As I’ve always nurtured a love for letterpress it feels a natural progression that I start working in the medium.

I am now selling my Christmas card range online at

Comprising of 5 designs available with different papers, ink colours and envelopes available to suit your personal taste and budget. The collection ranges from packs of 5 cards on gorgeous thick 400gsm colour impregnated card in either white, ivory or chocolate for 25chf to individual cards and packs of 5 or 10 on luxuriously exquisite (and very decadent!) 300gsm or 400gsm mould-made cotton papers made in Germany and France (9,50chf to 11,50chf with 20% discount on packs of 10).

I hand print all cards to order and they can be customised to suit your personal or business requirements (minimum order and surcharges apply for this service).

Due to my having to travel to Australia for Christmas this year, the cards are only available online for just over 2 weeks. The last order date for this year is the 3rd of December; meaning they should be snugly within your letterboxes with plenty of time for you to write in them and send them off to their new homes.

But I also have some gorgeous cards and designs in the works for wedding invites, baby showers, greeting cards and Valentines day. So please follow me on tumblr (, facebook ( or twitter ( for updates and to see new collections and designs as they’re released.

For the next two weeks I am also offering refunds on A-priority shipping within Switzerland for all orders over 50chf. For registered post or sales outside of Switzerland I will refund the ‘within Switzerland’ postage amount. Just write that you found me on Lausanne Mom in the comments on Paypal or let me know via email at nicx(at)nexttonicx(dot)com.

But please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or requests.

Bonne journée et à bientôt!

Craft Workshops at “Atelier 3 petits points” – Lausanne

If you’re feeling like doing something crafty but don’t know how to start, here’s a way! I received the information from Haruka (who’s currently the organizer of the Starbucks M&M2B coffee meetings) that she and two other mothers were starting craft workshops, called “Atelier 3 petits points“. In the beginning they will offer painting and decoupage, as well as sewing workshops. The best part is, participants can bring their babies to class!

Courses will start on November 7th and all workshops will have an English speaking instructor. The sewing workshop can be instructed in German and Czech, in addition to French/English. There will be open house on 26-28 Oct (10am-4pm), and sign-ups on these dates get a special discount (more info here).
