Get Active! – at the Olympic Museum, until 29 Nov 2015

active-bougez-2015

“Get Active!” is a temporary hands-and-feet-on exhibition currently running at the Olympic Museum in Ouchy. This post is based on what Caroline, a friend and a local mom of two, sent me over WhatsApp on Sunday.

The family had been there for a brunch party at the museum’s TOM café, and as this exhibition was just next to the café, their girls literally jumped onto it.

They also did a little bathroom gymnastics…

and went through the laundry lines without touching the string that could *gasp* ring the little bells!

How adorable is this exhibition! I had thought of going but since I read it was mostly for 9y+, we didn’t go during the school holidays (my kids are 6 and 4). Thank goodness it will still run until end of November so that we should be able to go. This mama surely won’t mind that her kids get busy while she sips a cup of delicious renversé while enjoying the view of the Alps and lake Léman from the café.

Finally, some words from Caroline:

“Most of the things are better for 9y+ but little kids can still do them. The bed makes music when you jump, the string course has little bells so you know if you touched one, etc…”

And about the brunch:

“There was a great selection of food. The dishes changed often and the desserts were great! Service was friendly and prompt. Definitely recommend for  a special occasion type brunch or a big splurge. Reservations highly recommended. Go hungry, leave full!”

*Huge thanks Caro for the info and lovely pics! xoxo

This & That Week #24 – June 2013

Oh boy, how I was so busy (and had a lot of fun) the last couple of weeks! Did you enjoyed the brief return of the sun? Yesterday in particular was strange for us. We started the day with rain, then sun, then rain again, and returning home from a birthday party we had to do a detour as there were floods and landslides around my municipality. And while detouring, I saw hail stones in the hilly area around! Four-season in one day!

But, worry not. Despite the strange weather, the rest of spring and the coming summer will still be fun. We’ll have plenty of festivals and other fun events coming up, many are free!

And some things worth mentioning, especially for the Lausannois:

  • First Aid for Child Injury Course by Health First, Lausanne 11 June 2013 (info and registration here)
  • Some of you have raved about the Lausanne Night Market. Hope to be there on the next one.
  • Has anyone tried the new PayPass credit card payment on 125 parking meters in Lausanne? (Link to article in French)
  • The game for the truly Lausannois : Helvetiq Lausanne
  • One of a kind train: Steam-Sausages-Express, seriously.

Finally, due to the landslides that happened yesterday in Moudon/Jorat/La Broye area, in case you commute with train S21 that serves between Lausanne-Payerne, please make sure to check if it runs at all or if there are replacement buses.

Enjoy the rest of spring (in whatever weather it will bring)… xx

Cupcake Giveaway from Poppin’s Cupcake

To celebrate the spring, the sun, the 305 Facebook fans of Lausanne Mom, and the inauguration of the newest cupcake boutique in town, Dina & Yasmine from Poppin’s Cupcake have agreed to do a giveaway!

I passed by the boutique on Saturday to pick up cupcakes to try. I could see that the news had spread, costumers seemed to be coming all the time. There was also a crowd of ladies attending a baby shower. Cupcakes and bump, what lovely combination!

Here are the ones I got my mouth on…

a black velvet with cream cheese frosting (left) and a spicy apple with cream cheese and cinnamon frosting (right). Needless to say, they didn’t last long *grin*

Dina and Yasmine are both mothers of two. After their maternity leave, they decided to open a café that serves delicious treats in Lausanne. They chose to do cupcake after trips to London and New York, and having cupcake classes there. Their creations can now be found in their lovely boutique in the center of Lausanne, close to St. François (see address below). There is a place for 6-7 people to sit and to park 1-2 strollers. Wi-Fi is also available. Besides cupcakes, a selection of tea is offered. They also accept custom orders, and for the baby shower I bumped into, Yasmine also made lovely decorations that match the theme.

And now, you have the chance to taste these yummy cupcakes for free! Enter your comment below and let us know, “If you can have it all, how many cupcakes can you eat in a week?” Yes, be crazy, don’t think about diet! There will be 3 winners will be selected randomly by random.org. Each winner will get 4 cupcakes. Comments are accepted until next Monday, 19 March at 11:59pm.

Bonne chance!

The New Holy Cow! Gourmet Burger Bar is Now Open

I saw that the new Holy Cow! Gourmet Burger Bar at Bel-Air (Rue des Terreaux 10) was already open on Friday, and being so excited about it, I went there yesterday. The restaurant is spacious, I could easily brought our stroller in and parked it on a safe corner. We arrived at 11:30am, which turned out to be a smart decision, as hungry people started pouring in soon after, and at 11:50am there was already a long queue (at 11:35am I didn’t have to queue at all).

The burger was as expected — very good (I had the Beef Mexicana). The new french fries in the menu was also good, but the portion was rather small (as you can see in the pic above). It was enough for me, as I’m usually already full with only the burger, but some people may find it, well, not enough.

The restaurant is also children-friendly. As in the other location, they have children menu, and better yet, they have high chair and changing table! However, I only saw one high chair (that was then used by my daughter), I hope they will add more soon.

If you’re going with children, I would advise going early (they already open at 11am) or late (after 12:30pm) to avoid the crowd, so you can enjoy the burgers better! Bon Appétit!

Sweet Dreams Cupcake Café

Sweet Dreams has already opened since late last year, but I only had the chance to go there a few weeks ago. And of course I felt so sorry that I didn’t go sooner! I went there with 2 girlfriends on a Saturday afternoon. The café is easily reached by public transport. I took the métro m2 to Riponne and after a short (although steep) walk, voilà, we were there!

Although the café is tiny (it only has 9 seats), it is beautifully decorated — perfect for a girlfriend meet-up. When we came, Stacey, the American owner/baker, and her husband were there to greet and serve us. Our main target, the cupcakes, did not disappoint! I had 2 different ones (one of them is pictured above) and both were really yummy. (Oh, now I feel like running there to get some more — too bad they are closed on Mondays!)

FYI, Stacey introduces new flavors regularly, which announcement can be seen on Sweet Dreams facebook page.
